OUR PROGRAMS

Our Programs

The after-school programs serve children from pre-school to primary school leavers and encompass a broad range of focus areas, including academic support, mentoring, skills development, arts and recreation.

The activities in which children engage while outside of school hours are critical to their development, highlighting the need for quality after-school programs in all communities.

High-quality after-school programs generate positive outcomes for the children, including improved academic performance, good behaviour, skills, leadership, health and nutrition. The communities also benefit when the children have a safe and productive way to spend time while their parents work.

It turns the aimless hours after school into productive learning time. This is a big benefit for kids with learning and thinking differences.

Benefits of our After-School Programs.

1. Create a sense of belonging.

The program can give a child a chance to connect with familiar kids in a different environment. There’s generally more adult supervision than on the school playground, too. As a result, kids with learning or thinking differences are more likely to be included and feel part of the group

2. Improve social skills.

The program promotes cooperation, support and respect. This helps kids feel more secure about joining a game or contributing to a conversation under the watchful eye of our sympathetic volunteers on hand to correct any slip.

3. Provide academic support.

The club offers structured homework help and exam revision help. Our volunteers don’t do the work for the children.

4. Make learning more fun.

The programs offer classes in STEM and Digital skills. These classes are stress-free, fun and meaningful. Other options include literacy, art, dance, drama and music, which can help kids find new interests.

5. Provide safety and supervision.

Kids living in disadvantaged communities are more likely to be victimized or engage in risky behaviour. They are likely to commit crimes, drink or use drugs or become the victims of crime. Keeping kids busy can prevent them from engaging in risky behaviour and can result in better grades and fewer behavioural problems.

6. Build confidence.

For kids after-school program may feel more forgiving than school does. As a result, they may be more willing to try new things and take more risks. This, in turn, can lead to higher  self-esteem.
